Saturday, April 1st, 9:00 am - noon
Call for Volunteers!
For the second year in a row, NESCO is partnering with the East 10th Street Civic Association and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful in the Great American Clean-up on Saturday, April 1 from 9 am to noon. Neighborhood leaders have received an email invite from the Civic Association to join in that day by organizing their own neighborhood clean-up in conjunction with the clean-up happening along 10 East Main Street.
NESCO neighborhoods interested in participating will be responsible for recruiting their own volunteers. The East 10th Street Civic Association will assist by distributing trash bags, gloves and other goodies on the clean-up day at their Headquarters/Volunteer check-in point at the southwest corner of E. 10th and Gray Streets. There is an opportunity to be on the day’s schedule for equipment, a dumpster and, if possible, on the packer truck route
Last year’s clean-up was a huge success in terms of volunteer turn-out and projects completed – not to mention the great newspaper and television coverage our near eastside clean-up received. Please contact Tammi Hughes, thughes@teneast.org or Sharilyn Bodi, sbodi@enn.org, if your neighborhood would like to participate. Even if your neighborhood doesn’t hold their own clean-up, there are plenty of projects along East 10th St. that could use your help. If you can volunteer, contact Tammi Hughes at thughes@teneast.org

"The role of City Planning Staff in Land Use Decisions and Negotiating on Behalf of Your Neighborhood"
NESCO Zoning Committee is repeating its popular Zoning Education Forum on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 from 6 to 7:30 pm at Englewood Christian Church, 57 N. Rural. First offered in March of last year, this educational forum is free and open to all interested residents and business owners who want to increase their understanding of how the city’s zoning process works. This year, there will be special emphasis on residents’ rights and responsibilities as a remonstrator (or supporter) of rezoning and variance cases heard by the city’s commissions and boards.
The presenter, Tammara L. Tracy, is the Principal Planner with the City’s Department of Metropolitan Development. Ms. Tracy received her Masters in Regional and Community Planning preceded by a B.S. in Economics from Kansas State University. Before her work in the planning profession, she was a firefighter and Executive Director for a small non-profit focused on landlord-tenant and consumer advocacy issues. Ms. Tracy started her planning career in Indianapolis in 1988 and has served as Senior Planner, Chief Planner, Subdivision Administrator and Pike Township Administrator. As a volunteer, Ms. Tracy has been active in Historic Urban Neighborhoods of Indianapolis (HUNI) and Fletcher Place and Herron-Morton Neighborhood Associations. Currently she is volunteer chair of the Meridian Street Preservation Commission.
Light refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to sbodi@enn.org by Monday, March 27.
