Free spay and neuter vouchers at Linwood Kroger

Sat, Feb. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon
Indianapolis Animal Care & Control will offer free spay and neuter surgeries to owners of pit bulls and pit bull mixes.
Owners of pit bulls and pit bull mixes will be able to use the vouchers for any dog in their household. IACC will hand out vouchers for the surgeries Jan. 28 and Feb. 4. Owners must redeem the vouchers by the end of March.

“Pit bulls and pit bull mixes make up approximately one-third of the animals that are in our shelter,” said IACC Administrator Leslie Fatum. “These are great dogs, but we have to take responsibility for them and be responsible pet owners.”

Made possible by a grant from Petsmart Charities, IACC is able to offer approximately 40 surgeries. To receive a voucher, pit bull owners can sign up either at the College Avenue Public Library Sat., Jan. 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or at the Linwood Kroger store Sat., Feb. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon. Surgeries will be performed at the Keystone Pet Hospital.

To be eligible for surgery, pit bulls must be up-to-date on vaccinations. However, Keystone Pet Hospital is offering all vaccinations for $30, except rabies, which can be obtained for an additional $10.

"I believe that this program will make an impact on our community,” said Robert Turner, director of public safety for the City of Indianapolis. “Spaying and neutering our animals is the only effective way to combat the pet overpopulation problem in Marion County. Unaltered animals have more health problems and are more likely to stray and run away. To be a responsible pet owner you must spay and neuter your animals.“

The College Avenue Public Library is located at 4180 N. College Ave. The Linwood Kroger is located at 4445 E. 10th St. Any questions about this program can be directed to IACC at (317) 327-1397.
