In the fall of each year, the Indianapolis Public School Magnet Department hosts a district wide magnet fair. The IPS Magnet Fair features magnet program exhibits and information designed to help parents and students make selections. Applications for the following school year are available at the fair or at the IPS website.
The magnet schools offer students with special aptitudes in the performing arts or science and technology, for example, an opportunity to advance in a challenging environment. The option plans include the very popular Key Learning Community, Center for Inquiry and Montessori schools that utilize a unique instructional approach. Please see the Magnet / Options descriptions for a complete list of schools and programs. The deadline for application is Friday, Dec 14, 2007.
For more information about schools that serve Emerson Hights see "Neighborhood Schools" under Resources.

Near Eastside Design Workshop
Saturday, November 3, 2007
As a participant in the June Near Eastside Visioning session, you are invited to experience firsthand a design workshop for the East Washington Street corridor.
WHO: All residents interested to observe the design process firsthand and learn more about the ideas and vision the Ball State University students have for the E. Washington Street corridor.
WHAT: A design workshop is a short, intense visioning exercise in which students and faculty from Ball State's College of Architecture and Planning will give life to neighborhood visions as well as to explore design solutions to neighborhood problems. Students will produce numerous maps, sketches, and diagrams that will provide a picture of various aspects of what the neighborhood could potentially look like in the future; all based on input from the neighborhood planning process. Examples include: visuals of revamped streets and sidewalks, street benches, banners, trees, and bicycle lanes, or what a vacant lot might look like with a new mixed-use building. The key to the design workshop is to provide the neighborhood with VISUALS that bring life to elements of the quality of life plan . . . an object people can point to and say, "This is what we want our neighborhood to look like in 10 years." It does not provide final plans or drawings, but instead gives life and structure to visions.
WHEN: Saturday, November 3, 2007
9A.M. - 4P.M. - student design/drawing time; feel free to come and watch the students draw and listen to their conversations. (Fellowship Hall within Church Building, north parking lot)
4 P.M. – 5 P.M.*- open forum to review drawings/recommendations; light snacks will be provided (Ministry Building, south parking lot)

WHERE: Shepherd Community Church- 4107 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46201, 317.375.0203, http://www.shepherdcommunity.org
