Emerson Avenue Corridor Gateway Project
The Emerson Avenue Corridor Gateway Project will create a visual and physical sense of entry to the eastside of Indianapolis, while defining individual neighborhoods. The project will begin at the I-70/Emerson Avenue Interchange and go south to intersect with the Irvington Streetscape Project at Washington Street and on to the proposed Pennsy Trail.
This project will emphasize connectivity—through modes of transportation—pedestrian, bike, bus, and automobiles, as well as access and linkages to parks, trails and other cultural assets providing a sense of place and continuity. In all, this project will restore, rehabilitate and promote the community assets of the neighborhoods along the Emerson Avenue Corridor, adding further momentum to the revitalization efforts currently underway on the Eastside of Indianapolis. The Emerson Avenue Corridor Gateway Project will partner the neighborhoods and businesses of both sides of Emerson Avenue with Community Hospital East, and will be led by representatives from the Emerson Heights Neighborhood. The lead team —Tina Jones, Kurt Wiegand, and Rebecca Seifert have expertise in the areas of landscape architecture, park and transportation planning, historic preservation, project scheduling and budgeting, and meeting facilitation. Representatives from the neighborhoods, schools and businesses along this corridor will be invited to part of this visualization and planning process.
