Fall Tree Planting
Sat. Nov 13th 9:00AM
N. Side of 10th and Bancroft Rain or Shine Please join us in making our neighborhood a greener and better place. We need volunteers for our tree planting on Saturday, November 13. Emerson Heights and Little Flower will be hosting a volunteer group from MIBOR for this project. It will be great to have the extra help, but we need lots of neighborhood volunteers - we can't do it without you. We will meet at 10th and Bancroft, on the N. Side of 10th Street at 9:00 AM. Parking is available on Bancroft and 11th Streets. Please don't park in the Family Video Parking lot There are jobs for everyone: We need volunteers to help dig and plant the trees, water, mulch and cleanup. All tools will be provided. Please leave your tools at home so they don’t get mixed up. Tree-lined streets are one of the things that make our neighborhood appealing. We will be planting 67 trees this fall, along 10th Street from Leland to Linwood. The trees will improve the appearance of our neighborhoods along this important corridor as well as reduce heat, clean the air and buffer traffic noise. We are particularly excited that we will be planting trees in some of the concrete areas near 10th and Emerson. The trees will soften the appearance of the concrete and paved areas and make it feel more hospitable and inviting to pedestrians. These trees are an investment in our future. It’s an improvement to the neighborhood that will last 30 years or more. We must “plant ahead” ten years in order to have new trees ready to replace the mature trees that have died. We also expect to lose several trees in the next few years due to the emerald ash borer. Projects like this are only possible because of volunteers like you. In addition, this is a joint project between the Emerson Heights Community Organization, the Little Flower Neighborhood Organization, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. and The City of Indianapolis. Major funding is provided by the Home Depot Foundation Food for the event is graciously being donated by KeyBank. Many thanks to the volunteers from MIBOR who have chosen this project to support. Also, thanks to the property owners who have agreed to host a tree and care for it. ![]()
