Neighborhood Family Photo Project
As you may know, Little Flower, Emerson Heights and Irvington were successful at the local hearing to keep Dream Weavers bar from getting their license renewed. We took these actions because of serious problems at the bar. Thank you to all of the people who helped with that. We are now preparing for the appeal hearing in front of the State Alcoholic Beverage Commission on Oct 7, 2008.
One of the challenges that we face is conveying to the judge, who isn’t familiar with the area, that the strip bar is located in a proud residential neighborhood with families. We have done that in the past with a map, but a map lacks people. The opposing attorney has gone as far as stating to the hearing judge that the neighborhoods are “a snake pit”, thereby suggesting that the bar wasn’t detrimental to property values or residents’ personal safety. In our opening statement we would like to show a slide presentation that includes a photo-montage of neighborhood residents in front of their homes, on their front porch, in their garden, etc. We would like to photograph a variety of people – younger couples with children, empty nesters, singles with their pet, neighbors together, etc. We simply want to convey that this is a real neighborhood, with real people and real families on which the bar is having a detrimental impact. If you can do this, please e-mail me at webmaster@emersonheights.org and we will work out a time to take the photo. Thank you. Kurt Wiegand
